[Songs in the Night - December 8]
He maketh His sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. Matthew 5:45
WHEN we read our text we see that it tells us that as our God is gracious, loving, merciful, kind, even to the unthankful, even to the unjust, even to sinners, so we should be kind, generous, loving, should do good unto all men as we have opportunity, and especially to the household of faith. This view of God appeals to our hearts; and the more we study this God of love, the more we realize that he is the only loving and true God, and that all of our previous misconceptions were unreal, unloving, untrue—gods of our own manufacture—and the more do we see that civilized lands have made creed idols with pen, type, ink, and paper, more horrible than any which the heathen ever made of iron, stone, brass, or clay....Let us hold fast that which is good—the sure Word of God. Let us discard the human theories of the Dark Ages, which greatly misrepresented to us the divine message. Thus we shall be giving heed to the Master's words: "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." Z'14-172 R5474:5 (Hymn 165)
